Working Safe Simply Won’t Do

Even if you are a majority of one, the truth is the truth. Mahatma Gandhi.

If you are still competing with the crowd, trying to look like everyone else, or trotting out old ideas that clearly aren’t working for you anymore, maybe it’s time to rethink your proposition.

Here are three critical questions to ask yourself:

  1. Who, specifically, are you trying to reach?
  2. What story are you telling them?
  3. What is the most effective way to reach them?

In our post-digital age the winners are emerging from the ranks of those willing to step out in front of the crowd.

To grow your enterprise or advance your career you’ve got to be open to change, be absolutely clear about what you are trying to say and to whom you are directing your message.

Working safe simply won’t do.

Riding The Tiger Of Your Dreams

To dare is to lose one’s footing momentarily. Not to dare is to lose oneself. Soren Kierkegaard.

Whatever your dream or regardless of how long you have been working on it, victory always comes down to doing the hard work and never succumbing to fear:

Fear of failure, of being ashamed, of looking foolish, of being left out, of being embarrassed, of running out of money, of being alone, of dying. Fear is a dream destroyer.

Riding the tiger of your dreams, to live your own truth, is always challenging. The life of a warrior is never easy. There may be times when you feel you need to take a break from yourself and maybe even stop for awhile. That’s OK, but what isn’t OK, what you must never do, is give up on the dream.

Always remember that just over the horizon, on the other side of fear, is the you you’ve been looking for.

Show Up For Work Everyday

You say I am a dreamer but I’m not the only one. John Lennon.

It’s hard these days to hold on to your dreams. At every turn negativity and pessimism rear their ugly heads. The world appears to be breaking into two groups. One is sure that we are all going to hell in a hand basket so don’t bother. The other says no, no no…..the future is bright if only we’re open to the new opportunities and changes that beckon.

It was always thus. The believers, the small, creative minority has always been responsible for improving humankind’s lot, but it’s never been easy.

No great work or extraordinary accomplishment in any field of endeavour has ever come without the hard work and courage.

In order to have, you must ‘do’ and in order to ‘do’ you must ‘be.’

And you must show up for work everyday.

Choose a Different Approach

Boredom is the route of all evil – the despairing refusal to be oneself. Soren Kierkegaarde.

Doing the same thing, month after month, year after year inevitably leads to boredom. Sheer, mindless boredom. Guaranteed to produce ennui and squeeze the joy out of your life.

Are you bored? The only real cure for boredom is to throw yourself into some sort of activity that will totally engage both your your mind and your heart. When you do, you won’t see the time – and you’ll find happiness that you never thought you would. Easier said than done, I know, but there it is.

The way out of boredom begins with a change of some sort, something that many have a great deal of difficulty accepting. Change is something we all resist even when we know we shouldn’t. Why?

Change has a considerable impact on the human mind. To the fearful, it is threatening because it means things might get worse. To the hopeful it is encouraging because things might get better. To the confidant it is inspiring because the challenge exists to make it better.

Which one of the three are you?

If you have been seriously contemplating taking a different approach but have been hesitating, here are some exercises to get you started in the practice of making changes… you will be amazed at how they can impact on your life!

  1. Take a different route to work – change your daily routine.
  2. Change your hair style – change your attitude.
  3. Listen to music you don’t usually listen to – change your mind set.
  4. Change your style of dress – change your appearance
  5. Invite a new couple for dinner – change the conversation.

Let me know how it went! And good luck!
